precenphix My favorite record by Nathan. The whole thing is just masterful from start to finish. I’ve been collecting and/or listening for a few years now, and whatever reason, this one grabs my anxiety by the lapel and shakes it out of me. The way out is through. Deep listening and deep introspection while listening to this album has taught me this or at least refreshed my memory. Love the rest of the discography, but this one is special to me. The album opener should let you know what you’re in for. Favorite track: Scorched Earth.

James A. McDermid A dark rumbling statement but also an exploration it seems of exquisite tenderness and nerve-shredding emotion. This is beautifully crafted and absolutely delivers on every front. Favorite track: Scorched Earth.

about

Woodie Guthrie famously used his music to “comfort disturbed people and disturb comfortable people." While this intense release is the antithesis of folk music, sonically speaking, Nathan Moody has the same desire with "The Damage Diary."

Two years in the making, this full-length release meditates on the damage we do to ourselves, each other, and our environment, and offers hope that we might break such cycles. From the hypnotic, evolving repetition of "Blowback," to the beatless, distorted drones of "Bleed," to the woodwind and horn polyrhythms of "Loathe to Say," each song blends virtual and live acoustic instruments into a thick, seamless miasma of blurred sound, set ablaze.
