Nathan Moody’s sprawling original score for the Hyperlab Omni podcast embraces generative music and retrofuturism to create atonal galactic freakouts, explore the melodic dreams of AIs, and imagine the fever dreams of adventurous neuronauts.

Nearly ten hours of underscore were created for the first season of Hyperlab Omni, which uses American “science-weird” magazines from the late 1970s and early 1980s to reflect upon our current age, so Nathan Moody looked to this same era for musical inspiration. This soundtrack recording is presented as a continuous mix of edited versions of the original pieces, which ranged from ten to thirty minutes in length and were at least partially self-playing. While musical keys and rule sets were determined by the composer, the recording of each piece was recorded live, with a mix of autonomous analog logic, chance-based operations, and human guidance of those events.

At various turns, the Hyperlab Omni score is majestic, consciousness-expanding, and light-hearted as it addresses quirky visions of the future that never came to pass.

All tracks on this album are continuously mixed, and the whole album as a single audio file is included as a bonus track.
